Lift Sling Rigging Co., Ltd manufacture Carrier Rope for Paper Machine,Paper Machine Rope.

Carrier rope, also known as paper transfer rope or paper guiding rope, is an essential auxiliary tool for paper machines in paper mills. It serves as the connecting link between all rollers of various sizes across different paper machine sections, including sizing, coating, drying, and reel sections, responsible for pulling the narrow paper web from one roller to another.

Construction & Materials

The paper carrier rope is woven from high-strength synthetic fibers, with the primary material being multifilament polyamide (nylon) fiber with special impregnation-supercoating treatment. Available material options include:

• Nylon (Polyamide): Standard material with excellent abrasion resistance and high-temperature tolerance

• DuPont Fiber: Premium imported material offering superior strength and durability

• Polyester: Specifically designed for wet conditions when extra resistance to elongation is required

• Composite Materials: Some manufacturers use a combination of polyester yarn, V66 yarn, and imported DuPont silk

According to the manufacturing process, carrier ropes can be classified as core carrier rope (with core) and hollow carrier rope (coreless), with the hollow type being the commonly recommended option.

Key Features

1. Hollow Braided Construction

The rope features a unique 8-strand braided anti-twist structure that creates a hollow core. This design offers multiple benefits:

• Round shape stability: Resists flattening under normal operating tension

• Enhanced threading efficiency: The consistent round shape ensures smooth paper tail threading

• Easy splicing: The hollow construction makes splicing significantly easier compared to core-type ropes

2. High Temperature & Abrasion Resistance

The carrier rope is designed to withstand harsh operating conditions in paper machine drying sections. It offers:

• Temperature resistance: 180–280°C, suitable for high-temperature drying environments

• Abrasion resistance: Durable construction that withstands continuous contact with iron rope pulleys

• Excellent grip: Special impregnation gives greater protection to the fibers and provides an excellent surface for gripping the paper tail

3. Strong Tensile Performance

The rope provides reliable strength for continuous operation:

• Minimum breaking strength ranges from 10,800 N (8mm diameter) to 22,000 N (16mm diameter)

• Controlled elongation of ≤30% to maintain stable operation

• High-strength synthetic fibers ensure long-term durability

Applications

Paper Machine Sections

Carrier ropes are commonly used in the following paper machine parts

Section

Function

Drying Section

Most widely used; ensures paper   web is stably attached to the drying cylinder surface and smoothly guided to   the next device

Pressing Section

Helps the paper web pass   through high-pressure areas to prevent breakage due to insufficient tension

Sizing & Coating

Transfers paper web between   rollers during surface treatment processes

Reel Section

Guides the finished paper web   to the winding stage

Speed Compatibility

Suitable for paper machine speeds below 800 m/min

For high-speed machines (above 800 m/min), thicker ropes or core-type ropes may be recommended

Working Principle

During normal production, the carrier rope runs continuously around multiple pulleys to form a closed loop. When the paper web enters a section (e.g., the drying section), the head of the paper web is inserted into the carrier rope. The carrier rope runs at the set speed, brings the paper web to the specified position, and then the paper web breaks away to enter the next process. The carrier rope continues circulating, ready for the next paper break.

Types & Classification

By Raw Material

Polyester carrier rope – For wet conditions

Sino-foreign joint venture DuPont silk carrier rope – Used by most domestic paper rope manufacturers

Pure imported DuPont silk carrier rope – Premium option for demanding applications

By Surface Treatment

Waxed carrier rope – Enhanced surface protection

Light dyeing carrier rope – Color-coded for identification

Primary color carrier rope – Natural finish

By Construction

Hollow carrier rope (Coreless) – Commonly recommended; easy splicing, good flexibility

Core carrier rope (With Core) – Recommended for higher-speed machines and heavier paper grades

Maintenance Guidelines

To ensure stable operation and extend service life, consider the following maintenance practices:

Regular pulley inspection: Check whether the pulley is worn and replace old parts in time

Avoid debris accumulation: Be careful to avoid rope jams caused by dust and debris

Proper tension adjustment: Pay attention to reasonable tension settings

Correct installation: When replacing old rope, pay attention to rope wheel direction and inner/outer rope arrangement to avoid crossing and tangling

Quality Certifications

Leading manufacturers offer products certified under ISO 9001:2000, with some also holding CE and RoHS certifications. These certifications ensure consistent quality and reliable performance in demanding papermaking environments.

Conclusion

The Carrier Rope for Paper Machine is an indispensable component in the papermaking process, playing a critical role in efficient paper web transfer and machine uptime. With its high-temperature resistance, abrasion-resistant construction, and easy splicing design, it remains the prevailing choice for paper mills worldwide. Whether for low-speed standard machines or high-speed production lines, selecting the right carrier rope material and construction type is essential for optimizing paper machine performance and reducing operational downtime
